"Varanasi" by Bonnie Muench
I prefer time outdoors in the landscapes of the unknown and unexpected. In the natural world I find freedom for thought and space to explore the wilderness of land and mind in my process of sketching and painting. Ideas evolve, images are created, at times abstract, at time impressionistic. My goal is to create a relationship of harmony, chaos, beauty and strength with compositions of form, light, line and color. While applying layers of watercolor onto Arches paper, changes occure, hopefully stiring the mysterious.
Painting was always a part of my life growing up in Wisconsin. Four years of study, a Bachelor of Arts in illustration and advertising from Art Center College of Design in LA led to a working trip in Japan. Back in Santa Barbara, I designed 30 large format photography books for Muench Photography Inc. Assignments led to backpacking adventures each year into mountain, desert, and forest wilderness areas. I am a member of the SBAA, LPWS, and GVAA. Solo exhibits have been at the Faulkner / West Wing and UCSB Faculty Club.
